What is third-party liability?
Motor third-party liability (MTPL) covers the damage a driver causes to third parties while using the vehicle. It is compulsory by law for every registered vehicle in Bulgaria and a condition for driving on the roads. Unlike Casco, MTPL does not cover damage to your own car.
What it covers and what it doesn't
Covers
- property damage to third parties (other cars, property, infrastructure);
- material and non-material damage in case of injury or death of third parties;
- liability within the legal limits in force at the time of the event.
Does not cover
- damage to your own car (that is the subject of Casco);
- damage caused intentionally or while driving without a licence or under the influence.
The specific cover and exclusions are set by the insurer's General Terms and the applicable legislation.
How the price is formed
- vehicle characteristics (engine size and power, type, weight);
- region of registration and the owner's place of residence;
- the owner's age and history, and the bonus-malus class;
- method of payment — single or in instalments.
Each insurer weighs these factors differently, so prices for the same car can vary — which is why comparing several quotes pays off.
Documents needed
- vehicle registration certificate;
- owner's details (ID / company number);
- for bonus-malus transfer — details of the previous policy.
Why use a broker
A broker works on your side, not for a single company — so you can compare more than one offer, understand the cover and choose by your real risk and budget.
